About CLJAOM

In order to encourage overseas Chinese media to write about the efforts and contributions of Taiwanese around the world and to serve overseas Chinese, the Overseas Community Affairs Council (hereinafter referred to as “OCAC”) held The Chinese Language Journalism Award for Overseas Media for the first time last year, with the core concept of “Focusing on Taiwan and Reporting on Taiwan”. There were two categories: print/web journalism and broadcast journalism. OCAC received 89 entries from twelve countries and regions.

This year, the OCAC is holding The Chinese Language Journalism Award for Overseas Media 2021, in the core concept of “Focus on Taiwan and Report on Taiwan.” With “see the impact of the Chinese media under the pandemic” being this year’s slogan, the OCAC aims to highlight that despite the impacts brought by the pandemic, overseas Chinese media are still committed to their duties and produce quality diversified content to their audiences. The OCAC hopes the award, which aims to encourage and recognize quality reporting by the overseas Chinese-language media, can help raise Taiwan’s profile in the overseas Chinese community and the world arena.

The Chinese Language Journalism Award for Overseas Media 2021 will expand the categories of applications, in addition to the original “Print/Internet Reporting Category” and “Broadcast Reporting Category”, the “TV/Video Reporting Category” will be added to showcase the professionalism and depth of overseas Chinese media reporting, the diversity and innovation of broadcast program content, and the richness and focus of the audio-visual reporting platform. It is hoped that the award will help promote Chinese culture and further deepen the link between Taiwan and the overseas Chinese community.

In addition, a “Special Award for OCAC News Correspondents” has been added this year. The special award has been set up to encourage overseas Taiwanese to volunteer as reporters. The coverage of the overseas Chinese community by volunteers published by our e-newsletter has allowed expats to understand the Taiwanese government’s policy as well as the activities of the expat community.
